The two founders of The Specialty Coffee Company, a startup aimed at making the finest quality coffee available to everyone at affordable prices, originally approached me for consultation. Seeking advice as to how to get their idea off the ground with a minimal budget, they wanted to understand what was possible and what website features would be important to their initial concept.
After understanding their business goals, I developed a Minimum Viable Product strategy that would allow them to build a fully operational version of their business model to validate the idea and build an audience. Initially encouraging manual processes in places, I developed a plan that would achieve all of the nuances of their operational offering, with a view to further development around automation as their business grew.
Working with only a basic brand, I worked on audience understanding and competitor research to develop the company out visually, creating a colour palette, icon styles, typography and photography guidelines. The brand fits into the coffee space and quickly explains the brand while emphasising their quality and finesse, using sophisticated photography to appeal to a switched on millennial audience.
Drawing in knowledge hungry aficionados with a comprehensive concept hub aimed at encouraging inbound traffic and social media traction, the website provides expertise and guidance to appeal to both experts and those new to Specialty Coffee as it guides the through the buying process. An intuitive Wordpress backend allows the two founders to easily edit and add content to keep visitors coming back.
Developing a highly functional e-commerce store using WooCommerce and a wide stack of plugins and customisations, a standard purchase flow is also complemented by a subscription model that allows users to customise, create, edit and cancel their subscriptions. It's also possible to purchase subscriptions for friends and loved ones, redeemable via either email or physical gift vouchers.
The result has allowed them to successfully launch their concept with minimal budget. Creating great traction on launch, they've been able to build an audience and customer base, develop an income and secure further investment in order to expand and further fine tune their business.VIEW IN THE WILD
